We know you love driving your Porsche! But in order to keep it running well and keeping you safe, you need to perform regular maintenance and deal with certain wear and tear issues as they come up. One thing that may need to be dealt with is repairing your transmission. We want you to know these six important signs that mean you need to contact your Porsche dealer for a transmission repair.

1. You Notice a Leak Under Your Car

If you notice fluid leaking from your vehicle, or see a puddle underneath where your car was parked, this needs attention right away. Transmission fluid is typically red, but if it is old or if the fluid has been on the ground for a while, it could appear darker.

2. Your Transmission Fluid Is Low or Old

Speaking of transmission fluid, you should be doing this regularly. As mentioned, healthy transmission fluid is red and slightly thick. If it is any other color or consistency, it needs to be replaced before it causes any damage to your transmission.

3. You’re Noticing Shifting Issues

If you have a manual transmission, you may notice it’s harder to change gears or that your gear slips out of place. Even if you have an automatic transmission, you’ll likely feel your gears struggling to shift while you drive. This can mean low transmission fluid, or it could be an issue with the entire transmission. Either way, it’s important to get it checked before it causes further damage.

4. There’s a Burning Smell

Burning smells are often the result of transmission fluid is being burned off too fast, or that the transmission is overheating due to lack of fluid. Get any strange smells checked out immediately.

5. There Are Strange Noises

Hearing noises that sound like grinding, whining, rumbling, or banging when your vehicle changes gears or when it is in motion means your transmission is likely working too hard. This needs attention before the issue gets worse.

6. Your Porsche Dealer Mentions Issues With It

During your regular maintenance appointments, your dealer will check out all the working parts of your vehicle and check all the fluid levels. If there is an issue with your transmission, they will let you know.
