1. The MDWFP Museum of Natural Science

Explore the remarkable MDWFP Museum of Natural Science in the historic LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, packed with exhibits and installations. Stand in front of the vast expanse of glass overlooking the beautiful 300-acre natural landscape, learn about the state’s fauna and flora, and view over 200 underwater creatures in the 100,000-gallon aquarium. The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is at 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson and is open Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to  5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

2. The Russell C. Davis Planetarium

The Russell C. Davis Planetarium is one of the largest and best-equipped planetariums in the South. Discover the universe’s wonders and learn more about the stars and planets, space voyages, and celestial navigation in the giant hemispheric theater featuring a digital projection system that provides a full dome visual experience. Enjoy a mind-blowing stargazing experience and fly to the end of the universe on a cosmic sightseeing expedition.

The Russell C. Davis Planetarium is at 201 E. Pascagoula Street in Jackson and is open six days a week, except on major holidays. Time and programming vary.

3. The Oaks House Museum

Boyd House, a Greek Revival-style cottage built around 1853 and fondly called “The Oaks,” is one of the city’s oldest homes and one of only a few that survived the burning of Jackson in the Civil War. Between 1853 and 1960, three generations of the Boyd family lived in The Oaks.

Today, the house and grounds tell the family’s story from 1853 to 1863. The Oaks House Museum, surrounded by a beautiful Victorian garden, is a perfect example of a middle-class mid-19th-century urban farmstead and is a Mississippi Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places.

4. The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum

If you’re a sports enthusiast and you’re in Jackson, make sure to drop in at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, which celebrates Mississippi athletes and teams through a prestigious collection of impressive sports memorabilia.

Learn more about the state’s star players and sports legends at the interactive kiosks and view the collection of Super Bowl MVP trophies and Olympic gold medals.

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is at 1152 Lakeland Drive in Jackson and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
